McLAREN 650S GT3 SECURED FURTHER SILVERWARE OVER THE WEEKEND IN NORTH AMERICA AND AUSTRALIA.

8 Mar 2016. McLaren Dubai News.

PODIUM FINISHES FOR THE 650S GT3 ON BOTH SIDES OF THE GLOBE.

The McLaren 650S GT3 secured further silverware at the weekend in North America and Australia at the first rounds of the Pirelli World Challenge and the CAMS Australian GT championship. With a total of nine examples of the 650S GT3 racing with customer teams across the two championships, McLaren GT was well represented, and across the course of five races, secured a race win, three further podiums and a new lap record.

The opening round of the Pirelli World Challenge saw Factory Driver Alvaro Parente join customer team K-PAX Racing as a three car entry. The Portuguese driver secured a second row start for the first of the weekend’s two races and claimed P6 in Race 1 and a solid P8 in Race 2 on his debut outing at the Circuit of the Americas. Teammate Colin Thompson brought the #13 650S GT3 home in P4 just behind the #99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing with a podium finish on the team’s debut with the 650S GT3 at its home circuit.

In Australia, the three teams who contested the Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour last month were back on track for the first action of the 2016 CAMS Australian GT season at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide. Race 1 of the triple-header saw the 650S GT3 claim a double podium with Nathan Morcom securing P2 for Tekno Autosports while father-and-son pairing of Tony and Klark Quinn claimed P3 for Darrell Lea. Morcom’s teammate Nathan Antunes proved to be the quickest man of the weekend and broke the lap record. The lap time of 1m 20.413s beat the previous record by four tenths of a second.

The second race of the weekend saw the 650S GT3 claim three top 10 finishes, with the 10 lead cars split by as many seconds with Darrell Lea leading home the trio. The third and final race of the weekend saw more success for the 650S GT3 as Tony Walls stayed calm under pressure to take the lead and defend in the closing stages, claiming victory for customer team Objective Racing.
